The EcoShield® 386 series of Micro-Corrosion Inhibiting Coatings™ offers one of Cortec’s top-performing water-based permanent coatings, having achieved as much as 1,000 hours of corrosion protection in ASTM B117 salt spray testing.
EcoShield 386 relies on a complex mixture of non-hazardous nano-sized corrosion inhibitors to provide a more continuous layer of corrosion protection in micro cavities where traditional inhibitors may leave gaps and allow rust “blossoming” due to their larger relative particle size. EcoShield 386 protects multi-metal surfaces and offers excellent UV resistance. It can be used in a multitude of applications, including direct to metal (DTM) or over a painted surface for an added layer of inconspicuous protection. It is highly versatile and can be used indoors or outdoors to protect structural steel, OEM parts or painted equipment.
EcoShield 386 can be applied clear or tinted. Clear coatings are a great option when painted equipment needs extra protection without changing its appearance. It can also be matched to most custom colors, which can prove helpful for touch-up painting on heavy equipment stored outdoors where the original paint has peeled away due to harsh environments or maritime exposure. For structural steel, EcoShield 386 can be tinted to match the facility color scheme or to stand out in bright safety colors.
As an added advantage, EcoShield 386 is weldable, allowing OEMs to apply corrosion protection right off the production line to tubing or other metals that need to maintain a rust-free surface for later welding.
Manufacturers that require corrosion protection on assembly line parts but do not have much time to wait for coatings to dry will appreciate the fast-dry nature of EcoShield 386 FD, which is able to force dry in 5 to 10 minutes. This reduces or eliminates the problem of hot coated parts sticking to each other when they have to be processed and stacked or packed right away. Similar to EcoShield 386, EcoShield 386 FD also shows outstanding performance in salt spray testing over an extended period of time.
The EcoShield 386 series can be applied DTM or over a primer at 1.5-3.0 mils (37.5-75 µm) DFT (dry film thickness). Both coatings contain 0.6 pounds of VOCs per gallon (72 g/L) and are excellent alternatives to solvent-based and zinc-rich paints for users who want a water-based material that is friendlier for workers and the environment.
