Manchester, England-based HMG Paints Ltd. supplied a system of paints for restoration of the historic 92-year-old Savoy Cinema in Stockport, England.
HMG Paints is the UK’s largest independent industrial coatings manufacturer and offer a vast range of decorative products, including emulsions, masonry paints and water-resistant coatings. The range of products is especially versatile and easy to apply and has been specified for use on a number of new-build, redecoration and historical renovation projects, including the regeneration of Manchester Central Library.
The luxury boutique cinema, based in Heaton Moor, reopened its doors in October 2015, almost a year after it closed for the extensive restoration project. Owners Amanda and Tony Mundin masterminded the restoration, remodeling the foyer area, installing the latest digital projection equipment and providing a range of luxury seats.
A comprehensive system of products was specified for the renovation of the cinema, including KX Undercoat Primer, Masonry Coating, and Coach Enamel. Vinyl Matt Emulsion was also supplied, providing the interior with a luxurious, high-opacity finish, and HydroCryl was specified to offer a waterborne topcoat alternative with excellent adhesion to a wide variety of substrates.
The experienced color team at HMG was able to create a suitably lavish palette of colors for the cinema decor, taking advantage of an on-site color laboratory that houses the most sophisticated color-matching equipment available and a library that contains over 250,000 different shades.
Tony Mundin was thrilled with the outcome of the project and is excited to return The Savoy to its former glory. He said, “HMG contacted us early in the development by Twitter. We used their expertise to determine the correct paints to use in the various locations required and in the different finishes we wanted to achieve. Their emulsion was like painting with double cream. Amazing, and one coat gave great coverage.” He said, “We are very happy with the results and all our customers love the new Savoy.”
