AMSTERDAM, the Netherlands - The JEC Group, an organization recognizing excellence in composite innovations, has named AkzoNobel’s Polymer Chemistry business the winner of its 2015 Innovation Award in its Resins category for AkzoNobel’s patented cure system for bio-fiber reinforced composites. The new technology removes barriers by allowing composite producers to adopt sustainable bio-fibers.
Today, fiber-reinforced composites are found in a wide variety of consumer, industrial and infrastructure products, but many if not all rely on glass fiber reinforcements. Alternative bio-based reinforcements offer a number of advantages to manufacturers including a much lower CO2 footprint, lighter weight and high-performing product properties compared to glass fiber alternatives. AkzoNobel will formally receive the award at the JEC Europe Composites Show in Paris.
