Improved, 100%-Active Polymeric Dispersants for UV-Curable and Waterborne Coatings
Development of new anchoring technologies for polymeric dispersants is a challenge considering the various target pigments/particles with surfaces ranging from organic to inorganic, non-polar to polar. Recent efforts have focused on novel dispersant anchor and stabilizing chain combinations for both 100% solids and waterborne applications. This work has resulted in development of new polymers that deliver rapid dispersion, excellent particle size and viscosity stabilization combined with superior final coating properties. These dispersants combine 100% activity with pourable viscosity at room temperature. Supplying dispersants in 100%-active form enables reduced carbon footprint from production to market as well as increasing versatility in different coatings systems, especially UV curable. These biocide-free dispersants improve manufacturing efficiency by enabling higher pigmentation at lower viscosity with greater color development and dispersion stability. In waterborne systems they also demonstrate greater tolerance to challenging coalescing solvents, expanding formulation latitude.
