MasterFinish Establishes New Electroplating Capability (11/8/06)

MasterFinish Co. is establishing a new electroplating capability for Advanced Magnesium Ltd.'s AM-lite® at its existing plant in Grand Rapids, MI. The facility is expected to be operational sometime in November.

The new electroplating line will use MacDermid's new technology Bondal® Mg, which was specifically developed for electroplating AM-lite. Unlike aluminum and other magnesium alloys, which are expensive to electroplate, MacDermid's new proprietary process reportedly allows AM-lite to be readily electroplated at low cost. According to the company, this benefit, in combination with AM-lite's as-cast surface quality, die castability and resistance to burning and oxidation, makes electroplated AM-lite components cost-competitive to those made from zinc, aluminium or plastic.
