The European Coatings Show and accompanying Congress have become one of the industry's most prestigious events. The show, to take place April 8-10, will feature over 600 exhibitors presenting raw materials, intermediate and finished products, production and application equipment, testing instruments, and logistic and software solutions.

Centered around the theme "Creative Advances in Coatings Technology," the 7th Nurnberg Congress is intended to provide a unique opportunity for cross-fertilization of ideas between raw material suppliers, formulating chemists and academics seeking advanced materials and novel technologies. Basic and applied technology knowledge is the basis of successful development of high and specialty performance coating products.

7th Nurnberg Congress - "Creative Advances in Coatings Technology"

On April 7-8, 75 speakers from 16 countries will present the latest developments in the finishing and raw materials industry.

Twelve parallel running sessions, split into two days, will cover the following topics: Pigments & Dispersions, Optimization of Coatings Formulation, Additives, Adhesion, Analysis & Testing, Waterborne Binders, UV & Light Induced Curing Technologies, High Performance Coatings, Automotive & Powder Coatings, Waterborne Systems, Specialty Coatings Systems, PUR Technology, and New Solutions to Lower Costs.

The congress is jointly organized by Vincentz Verlag, the Paint Research Association and the FPL (German Institute of Paints & Coatings). The congress language is English.

Plenary Session

The Plenary Session, to take place on Monday, April 7, will feature Moderator Keith Le Page, president of the Paint Research Association (PRA), United Kingdom. Speakers include Dr. Egbert Brinkman, Akzo Nobel Resins bv, The Netherlands, discussing "'Smart' Rheology Resins for Coatings"; Mark Holt, Ciba Specialty Chemicals Inc., Switzerland, presenting "From Chemistry to Radiation Curing Solutions - Innovative Approaches to Enhance Market Penetration of Radiation Curing Technologies"; and Ken Johns, PRA, United Kingdom, speaking on "The Severe Climate for Hygienic Coatings."

Exploring Nurnberg

Nurnberg is one of the safest German cities, and is rated the city with the best-preserved medieval townscape. It still reflects middle-class living and working to an impressive extent, and fascinates visitors with almost a thousand years of the ups and downs of German history. Well-preserved city walls with dozens of towers and the narrow streets of the winding old town conjure up visions of medieval life with every step on the historic cobblestones. The mighty castle, the city's landmark, was one of the most important imperial palaces of the Middle Ages. Most of the Imperial Diets and court days were held here in the Middle Ages. Almost equally attractive are the extensive underground vaults below the old town, often extending over four floors, and the mysterious underground passages, which offered protection against air attacks in the last war.

The special charm of Nurnberg and its region lies in the blend of tradition and innovation in the midst of an exceptionally attractive cultural landscape. The atmosphere in the city is open and characterized by the Southern German lifestyle, which combines business and pleasure in a relaxed and enjoyable way. Nurnberg offers all the attributes of a city with a rich cultural life. This becomes clear, for example, in the lovingly rebuilt old town. Incidentally, many historical buildings can be used for stylish receptions and invitations.

Places of Interest and Culture

Anyone who still feels the desire to explore after a successful day at the exhibition should not fail to visit the Nurnberg city center, preferably by underground from the Exhibition Centre to Lorenzkirche station. A short evening stroll through the shops and stores in the pedestrian precinct, along the Pegnitz or down to the market square (Hauptmarkt) in the direction of the castle is ideal. Once at the Hauptmarkt, don't forget to visit the Frauenkirche church before looking for a restaurant for dinner.

Diners in Nurnberg will find that the city offers cuisines for every pallet. If you are a lover of gourmet food, one place not to be missed is the Goldenes Posthorn, or "Essigbrutlein." Italian cuisine worth committing a sin for is mastered by the chefs at Da Claudio, C'era una volta, and Caruso. Piquant dishes from the Far East can be found at Sushi Glas, Ngango or Tafelberg.

If you wish to partake in cocktails or cognac after dinner, a taxi should be requested, as the bars are spread around Nurnberg's inner-city ring. The undisputed leader is the Gelbes Haus cocktail bar designed by Philip Starck, but Freudenpark offers the largest selection of whiskey. Steinplatte, Wax Loungs and Hammets are also well worth a visit.
